Sparta were appointed by GMI Construction to deliver the SFS, drylining and ceilings package on the Mabgate development for Leeds City College with a package value of £1,850,000. The project commenced in October 2024 and is currently on-going, with up to 30 Sparta operatives working on site at peak times.

A former derelict site in Leeds City Centre will be transformed into around 70,000 sq ft of modern educational space, providing new facilities for Leeds City College and supporting the wider regeneration of the Mabgate area. The development consists of three separate buildings with phased completion dates, allowing construction and fit-out activities to progress efficiently across the site. The development includes College House, a five-storey campus for University Centre Leeds, the Enfield Centre, dedicated to adult learning at Leeds City College, and Studio 24, which is a listed building, with the façade needing to be retained and refurbished. Works on Studio 24 have not yet commenced and will be undertaken in a later phase of the development.

Sparta carried out the Metsec SFS installation, designed and supported by Voestalpine, along with internal drylining works which were completed using a British Gypsum system. Ecophon acoustic panels were installed in specific areas to meet the projects acoustic performance requirements. A specialist Gustaf Slat ceiling was installed with support from our supplier LSA Projects.

The site team for the project was Dave Metcalfe, David Wilkinson (Blue), and Sam Leake, who have overseen the delivery of works and maintained quality throughout the project.
